Aquatic Therapy

Neurocore HydrotherapyWhat is Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic Therapy is therapy performed in the water using active (performed by the client) and passive (hands on approach performed by therapist) range of motions.

How is Aquatic Therapy a modality of Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue and joints of the body. Aquatic Therapy utilizes both active and passive movements of the body with the goal of encouraging the body to facilitate healing.

What are the benefits having therapy in water?
Many cultures have used the healing properties of water for centuries.   Water has many therapeutic effects such as buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, resistance and turbulence.  Buoyancy helps to reduce gravitational force.  Hydrostatic pressure encourages body fluids such as blood, lymph and interstitial fluid movement.  Resistance of the force water is due to its viscosity, which make it an ideal environment to work weak or deconditioned muscles. Turbulence encourages core muscles to engage in order to maintain balance and stability of postural muscles. Therapy in water helps to alleviate forces of gravity, therefore decreasing pain and allowing for the body to move with greater ease, which often leads to easier land based treatments and therapies.
