Kinesio TapingWhat is the history of Kinesio Taping®?

Kinesio Taping is a therapeutic and athletic therapy tape that has been around for more than 30 years created by Dr. Kenzo Kase.

Kinesio Tape became particularly popular at the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Health Care Providers such as physiotherapists, lymphedema therapists, chiropractors, athletic therapists, personal trainers and occupational therapistsapply kinesio taping in their practice.

Why is it called "Kinesio" Tape®?

  • The word "Kinesio" comes from the Kinesiology which is the scientific study of human movement.
  • This taping method allows the body and muscle to maintain movement while it assists in rehabilitation.

How is Kinesio Tape® different than other therapeutic tapes?

Kinesio Taping of Neck
  • Several taping techniques exist. It is important that you consult with your health care provider to identify which technique is appropriate for your condition
  • Kinesio Tape differs from Leuko Tape in that its texture more closer resembles normal skin elasticity allowing more give, yet providing appropriate stability while maintaining range of motion
  • Kinesio Tape differs from precut tapes such as "Spider Tech" in that each piece is individually cut and personalized to the user's shape and application method varies based on the condition being addressed
  • Kinesio Tape can comfortably last 3-5 days and is water resistant

How is the tape applied?

  • Tape application must be applied by a trained and certified instructor to avoid skin breakdown, tissue irritation and ensure maximal benefits
  • Tape strips application varies based on your condition and phase of recovery
  • Tape application can take between 5 – 20 minutes
Kinesio Tape Colours

Is there a difference between different tape colours?

  • Kinesio tape comes in a variety of colours such as black, red, blue and beige
  • There is no physical or chemical differences between the colours or the resulting effect
