Rehana Meru

Registered Physiotherapist

Rehana MeruRehana is a 2012 graduate of the Masters of Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto. Prior to that, Rehana completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree at McMaster Universityin 2009. During her career, Rehana has taken a keen interest in being involved with both the neurological and orthopaedic population. Her clinical placement experience ranges within the continuum of care including: inpatient spinal cord rehabilitation, outpatient sports injuries rehabilitation, acute care in the intensive care unit, inpatient paedeatric neurological rehabilitation, community integration in a nursery school, and inpatient geriatric rehabilitation.

Rehana's professional development includes: Manual Therapy Level 1, Sport Physiotherapy Taping, and Ride Designs: Posture and Postural Tendencies. She is currently registered for the McMaster Evidence Based Acupuncture Program for the fall. She has attended the Canadian Physiotherapy Congress for two consecutive years. In the most recent Congress held in Montreal in 2013, Rehana and her research group had the opportunity to present their research project as a poster presentation entitled Thinking beyond our borders: Investigating Ideal Competencies of Canadian Physiotherapists working in Resource-Poor Countries. This paper is currently in the process for publication. Rehana has a keen interest in global health and plans to get involved in global health initiatives in the future.

Rehana enjoys expanding her knowledge of the human body and movement through other therapeutic approaches. She attended the Yoga Conference 2013 in Toronto where she participated in the following workshops: Partner Flow Yoga, and Embodied Anatomy: Body Landmarks and Facial Release using Yoga Tune Up Therapy Balls. Rehana also has a keen interest in dance. In 2009 she co-founded 7 Arts Dance Company, a Bollywood dance company with the mandate to empower all women through the art of dance. Over the years, she has led various events, including dance workshops for girls in at-risk communities, and has worked with the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Rehana has also been trained in social Ballroom and Latin dancing, and was an instructor for 2 years.

Rehana is a member in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. She is also a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's Leadership Division and International Health Division.
