Sonia Vovan

Registered Physiotherapist

Sonia Vovan

Sonia is a graduate of the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto.  Prior to completing her Masters, she received a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from Western University.  Her clinical experiences include working in various settings throughout the continuum of care, including the Geriatrics program at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, the orthopaedic surgery and rheumatology departments at Mount Sinai Hospital, the stroke unit at Toronto Western Hospital, and various private practices throughout the GTA.

Sonia’s interest in the neurological population began while she was completing her undergraduate studies.  For 3 years, she was a Physiotherapy Support Volunteer at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute in the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Programs (University and Lyndhurst), where she encountered patients with a variety of neurological conditions.  Sonia was also interested in the role of physiotherapy in research, thus she was a Research Volunteer in the Balance, Falls, and Mobility Clinic at TRI, where she assisted with various research activities that focused on understanding the balance and mobility problems that individuals face after a stroke.

Sonia’s professional development include: Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute (APTEI): Thoracic Spine, APTEI: Intro to Acupuncture & Dry Needling, Intro to Bobath course: The Study of Human Movement, Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Comprehensive Introduction, and a course covering athletic taping and kinesio-taping for sports injuries.  She plans to further her education with additional postgraduate courses in acupuncture and plans to continue to progress through the advancing levels of Bobath courses.

Sonia has a strong interest in working with both the neurological and orthopaedic populations and is eager to work with clients of all ages and of all backgrounds to achieve their individualized rehabilitation goals.  She is a member in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
