Thank you to the PTs & OTs at Lyndhurst Centre, Toronto Rehab Institute for inviting us back to teach Pilates based exercises for individuals with various levels of Spinal Cord Injuries. Neurocore Founders Carole and Rich first met working at Lyndhurst 18 years ago 🤗

Neurocore upgraded Lyndhurst’s existing Reformer with a Tower and built a new mat extender allowing for more exercise options💪🏼😃 We hope the new set of exercises taught can compliment the amazing therapy the Lyndhurst team already provides their clients.👌😊👌 @carolechebaro @alyworo @allanarmcleod

How is your brain doing today❓
We hope that you all answer with a 👍. However, the truth is many of us may not answer with a thumbs up due to a brain injury sustained from events as a concussion, car accident or fall. Such events can impact the brain’s function which motivates us as therapists to seek new ways to assess the brain health.

This past weekend Neurocore was introduced to a new technology called NeuroCatch™. The NeuroCatch™ platform is an objective, rapid neuro-physiological brain function assessment system that is easy-to-use, cost effective and readily accessible in Canada.

How does it work❓
The NeuroCatch™ consists of EEG (electroencephalogram) electrodes embedded in a mesh cap, which wirelessly interface with the custom software platform.
During a scan, the NeuroCatch software generates an approximately 6-min proprietary audio stimulus sequence that has been specifically designed to elicit desired brain responses.

What types of brainwave responses does the software analyze❓
The software analyzes the client’s brainwaves data in response to the below stimulus and provides valuable objective data of our brain’s “ABCs”:
A: Auditory Sensation [N100]
B: Basic Attention [P300]
C: Cognitive Processing [N400]

The NeuroCatch™ Platform then generates a summary report of the ABCs of electrical activity in the brain.

Treating brain injuries by stimulating our tongues❓

Neurocore in collaboration with two neuro rehab clinics and KITE (a world leader Research Facility in complex rehab science) is proud to be one of the few clinics in Canada to experience and learn about PoNS therapy.

What is PoNS❓
The Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator (PoNS) device is an investigational medical device being studied internationally for improving balance disorders, walking and attention caused by mild to moderate brain injury.
.
How is PoNS thought to effect the brain❓
The PoNS device delivers electrical stimulation through the tongue as a way to excite the brain via the brain stem.
.
Current research shows that electrical stimulation of the tongue stimulates two major cranial nerves (nerves located in the brain stem):
.1. Trigeminal (nerve which provides facial sensation,, biting, chewing).
2. Facial (nerve responsible for motor control of most of the muscles of facial expression).
.
How can activating the brain stem contribute to improved walking, balance and attention❓
The activation of these cranial nerves in turn activate the brain stem - a relay centre to connect the brain and the rest of the body.
.
The brain stem is a key control centre for basic life functions such as vision, balance, breathing, swallowing and heart rate.
.
From the brain stem, the neuronal impulses travel throughout the brain and activate or reactivate neurons and structures involved in the central nervous system.
.
Researchers believe that the sustained and repeated stimulation, coupled with therapeutic activities can lead to neuroplastic changes inside the brain. Such changes have been captured in research studies as lasting improvements in balance, gait, attention and sleep. .
